Three good points Robert, thank you.

I read that Helms never received more than 56% of the vote, but in that cesspool of a state, he always won.

Lately it seems that we live in 3 different countries..the one we know is real, the one conservatives want to "reinforce", and the one the Gnus perpetuates. My filter is constantly juggling these three, as when you read the statement by Bush re Helms. And often the latter two views meld together as well..very often.

The fundamental thing about Jesse Helms is that his side lost, is losing now, and will continue to lose from here on out.

The second important thing to remember about Jesse Helms is that each generation must stand up and fight against what he stood for.

The third important thing to remember about Jesse Helms is that although his opponents were almost always more numerous than his supporters, his opponents showed up and voted.

Naw, G, it's an old thing.."The Long Goodbye".. for some reason that piece resonated with people who do vids and online multimedia stories. So far, according to the stats from the International Trib and the New York Times..it's been heard by over 3 million people...the # of people who saw the report, which was about the plight of African refugees in France. That's the power of CC. People can knock themselves in the head trying to get their stuff out to people through reviews, etc..but the real power is ..CC

I'll report on the new connection here and at ccMixter as it evolves..but it seems to be something very good..as well as something for a great cause.

A new thing on the mixter? I'll check it out this weekend!

I'm with you--it's not necessary to "dis" major corporations, as their obsolete business models are dis-sing themselves capably.

It's important instead to work with others, makers and listeners and writers and drawers and photographers, to change the dynamic.

I like that little etsy.com website, where amateur craftspeople sell art to others and make a community for themselves. It's kindred to the mixter, it's kindred to a world of communities--and it shows that market-based craft need not be confined to large companies.

The same for me ..I have spoken to Chris a little about CC...whether he gets to that point or not is up to him.

I don't go the "duuude the corporations suck duude.." route because usually the complainers are drinking $5 lattes from..(<a href="http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/businesstechnology/2008028854_starbucks02.html" rel="nofollow">hmm..maybe NOT anymore!</a>) ..and that argument falls short. We (me and Rena) support Art and Artists..period.. if Chris Greene wants $10 for a delivered CD...I send it to him..and don't look for a p2p of it.

Since my "conversion" to The Commons, I find that the music I like and listen to usually is free..and if not, then like you, I also pay the Artist directly... same goes for any Art..we have a lot in our house, and we pay the artist as well... no lip service at all.... we like the stuff..and believe in supporting the people who make it..because..we are selfish bastards! who get an incredible buzz and motivation and inspiration from good things made by people who are insane enough in this fucking culture to actually MAKE Art and express themselves.

Today I got a great connection/response to a little piece on ccMixter..and I believe it will open up an entirely new avenue. That is what this about too..Open up and share.

I'm not completely dogmatic on the point, but almost all my music acquistions now are either from the artist, from magnatune, or from a Creative Commons netlabel. I dislike violating
anyone else's copyright--and yet I never have to do so, because so many people, like me, release work CC.

I love mass transit, and like to ride the train when I go into Dallas on the weekend.

used to be, the weekend train was a fairly solitary experience.

Now it's packed.

The change is a'comin'. Painful at first, because we frittered instead of planning.
But better things will happen!

The art and culture of remixing has a direct line to collage...and compositionally speaking, there are a lot of similarities. Your music is a fine example of this, and it also relates directly to your photography.

note: G is a mainstay at ccMixter.org, has his work available from there (for free) and several labels as well, and is one of the renaissance people who are able to see the whirl of art in the big picture, mixing visual with aural.

Some people I know went the evil advertising route in the 80's..one lucky fella, proudly showing me his new SUV, said he bought it by being the one to say "at McDonalds" at the end of a jingle. Think of it..a $35,000 "car" ..for saying the magic two words.

Another person I know decided to use her degree in English literature to write the in house newsletter at mickey d's. Good use of a $100,000+ ejjikation.

What got me about the letter though was the post moderne' nightmare blend of a reality show mitzed with advertising/shilldom.
There's no line anymore..maybe never was. Mix the gnus media with the corporate shills and you get..America/2008. umm, throw in the gebus angle too..

You're so jaded John, think of all the millions of people you could have made happy. Plus $100,000! I really think you should reconsider this offer. I used to work in advertising, I can give you all the clues you need to win.

First of all, don't be original. That scares them. The more it can sound the hit of the week, the better.

Second, listen to everything they say. These aren't greedy, uneducated buffoons who were too untalented, neurotic, stupid or lazy to make it in the real world....they're usually educated.

Third, they understand more about music than you can ever hope to, on a spiritual level. Try and remember that.

Just ignore the fact that they can't play an instrument, are tone deaf, have the taste of a slime eel and their knowledge of music only goes back as far as the last Frosted Flakes commercial, they know what they're talking about. So when they tell you the ending should, "Totally Go, like, up. then down. But not too much. But a lot" You'd better believe it brother.

Last but not least, leave your soul at home.
