Some of my original tunes, downloadable for free to use in podcasts, on your site, put into mice-space ‘casts.. and/or listen to on your ipod/phone/mp3 enabled vacuum cleaner, etc. Unless noted, they are all licensed under Creative Commons, please go to the Copyright/License Information Page to get the scoop.
I will be changing these tracks on a monthly basis, but all of them, whether currently in the player or not, are stored ( for now 2/08) at www.Box.net..there’s a link in the menu on the player. THIS, my frent (ChicagoSpeak for “friend”) is a good reason for you to RSS my site; you’ll get an update when there’s new music. There’s also an RSS link in the menu in the box, if all you want is a reminder about the new FREE music, not my site, being updated. But what’s the fun of that cowgirl? You want the whole enchilada, not just the sour cream..the whole sangwich (Chicago-ease for “sandwich”), not just the pickle, the….
Most of the music here was written, played, produced, mixed, mastered and delivered by… me. Sometimes there are exceptions, wherein one or 32 or so of my hoodlum musician friends has contributed a live drum part, a bass clarinet theme, etc..and those will be duly and ENTHUSIASTICALLY credited. I am honored to play with the musicians who have contributed their time and talents to the music on this site..and if you like what you hear, you should go over to their corner of the internet and dig in further. I especially recommend Jeff Thomas on drums and Michael Levin on reeds..there’s a page about them here coming very soon.
I need to point out that I am in the beginning phase of assembling a band to perform some of this stuff LIVE..so when that gets going, and it will this year, you’ll be able to come out to a club, festival, shower stall etc and hear it the way it should be heard, which is live, stretched out, fahnked up, and d’grooved.. without the insipid Nazi 4×4 on the floor beat.. and never played the same way twice, not even in the same 12 bars. Dance Music, in other words.
Now…to complicate things further..there’s a lot more music that I do besides what is up here, as in recording sessions for other people, where I am hired to play bass, synthesizer, baritone guitar, melodica (umm, not yet)..to program drum patterns …to make the final mix sound like it has some spoink in it. I’ll post one or two of these occasionally, but usually I let that up to the people who hired me to post and/or promote on their own site, because after all, it is their thing, not mine. But I will put up links to it, so you can hear what else I do..if you are still awake interested.
AND..there’s one important project that will be going full speed ahead this year, an international collective of all-star musicians, poets and a rapper or 2, all collaborating online through www.ccMixter.org as well as on a new site that is being constructed as you read this (2/08) called www.fahnk.com. It’s been a dream of mine for quite some time… collaborating with musicians, artists and writers I have met through various online communities over the years, people I know and trust (though for the most part have never met in person) who can really play and write, and who also get, are down with, understand the importance of and are willing to work for a Big Idea..which in this case is Peace and Justice in the World. There will be as much digital dissemination of this as all of us can muster, so stay tuned, as there will be links, podcasts, free music, ways to contribute YOUR music and/or talent to the collective, and a lot more. Remember: www.fahnk.com. A big announcement will be made here and a lot of other places on the net when it’s launched.
