Free Music Downloads

RIAA..working for YOU!!

Some of my original tunes, downloadable for free to use in podcasts, on your site, put into mice-space ‘casts.. and/or listen to on your ipod/phone/mp3 enabled vacuum cleaner, etc. Unless noted, they are all licensed under Creative Commons, please go to the Copyright/License Information Page to get the scoop.

I will be changing these tracks on a monthly basis, but all of them, whether currently in the player or not, are stored at www.Box.net..there’s a link in the menu on the player. THIS, my frent (ChicagoSpeak for “friend”) is a good reason for you to RSS my site; you’ll get an update when there’s new music. There’s also an RSS link in the menu in the box, if all you want is a reminder about the new FREE music, not my site, being updated. But what’s the fun of that cowgirl? You want the whole enchilada, not just the sour cream..the whole sangwich (Chicago-ease for “sandwich”), not just the pickle, the….

Most of the music here was written, played, produced, mixed, mastered and delivered by… me. Sometimes there are exceptions, wherein one or 32 or so of my hoodlum musician friends has contributed a live drum part, a bass clarinet theme, etc..and those will be duly and ENTHUSIASTICALLY credited. I am honored to play with the musicians who have contributed their time and talents to the music on this site..and if you like what you hear, you should go over to their corner of the internet and dig in further. I especially recommend Jeff Thomas on drums and Michael Levin on reeds..there’s a page about them here coming very soon.

Now…to complicate things further..there’s a lot more music that I do besides what is up here, as in recording sessions for other people, where I am hired to play bass, synthesizer, baritone guitar, melodica (umm, not yet)..to program drum patterns …to make the final mix sound like it has some spoink in it. I’ll post one or two of these occasionally, but usually I let that up to the people who hired me to post and/or promote on their own site, because after all, it is their thing, not mine. But I will put up links to it, so you can hear what else I do..if you are still awake interested.

YO-ski!!!! NEWS FLASH!!!!!!!!!!!!

The second installment is now up..only 4 months late! better late, etc etc..(if you liked the music from the first but “forgot” to dl it, it’s over right this way cowgrrrl)

This one features a few little wmv movies..two of which I made with collaborators for…our new president, Barack Obama..they obviously worked. RAHM! Send Money!! DUDE!! I MEAN IT!!!

“Rolf’s Groove! was done for the hardest working man in free source art software, Professor Rolf Steinort of Bremen Germany. He does a labor of love podcast tutorial EVERY WEEK for GIMP, the wonderful free source program that kicks photoshop’s $$ ass. HE does this EVERY WEEK..for free.  There’s a link to these and GIMP on the main page. I did a little piece of music for his podcasts..this is something I played on too..it’s a “little” different than my usual, but I wanted something cool and jazzy. Ummm..if you have any commercials that need a jazzy thing like this…DON’T CALL ME OK?

….and “The Long Goodbye”..Jebus..that piece, which was done when I picked up a fine cello fragment from Philip Boulanger at the Free Sound Project (you detecting a theme yet?) and “orchestrated” with multi kalimbas (african thumb pianos)..was picked up by The New York Times and International Herald Tribune for an online article about the plight of refugees in Calais, France..5 million people heard it in 3 days! then..it was picked up for a doc on the city of Adelaide Australia…then..another film piece for a not for profit hospital in San Luis Obispo, CA…THEN..by a great documentary producer who had a piece on the Holocaust, the Sunflower Project, as taught to a free school in Montana..and now that is going to PBS..I am really glad Creative Commons doesn’t work…that is obviously a joke son..because if it wasn’t for the Commons, none of that would have happened. btw, it was also remitzed at ccMixter by Londoner Old Dog..and his version is here as well..and by my friend Simon Littlefield..and… and…crimminy..more kalimba and cello pieces…it’s the new thang I say!

Some of the other pieces are experiments, tone poems etc etc..there’s more of these too; I was writing for visuals last  winter/spring. The music I have now is a lot different, and it’s coming along fast and furious..it’s back to Improvisational Instrumental Dance Music..that used to be called…jazz..you know. Stay tuned, and as usual..thanks for bopping by.

So……..
